Oslo, Norway2025-09-30Release notes

Today, we’re shipping Opera Neon. Opera Neon is the newest member of the Opera browser family and is a premium, agentic AI browser built for everyone who uses AI extensively in their day-to-day life. The first wave of invitations is rolling out to those of you who joined the waitlist and are now part of the Neon Founders program.

Why We Built Neon

We've all been there. Dozens of open tabs, switching between AI chats and documents, copying research from one place to another, losing track of what we’re were doing. You know AI should be making things easier, but somehow you're still doing all the heavy lifting.

Browsers have gotten incredibly good at showing you the web. But the way we work has changed. We're not just reading anymore - we're researching, comparing, creating, deciding. And we're doing it across multiple sites, tools, and AI assistants at once. Opera Neon is built for this new reality. Instead of just showing you web pages, it works alongside you to get things done.

What’s in Opera Neon

From tabbed browsing to AI assisted tasks

To make it easier to survive juggling multiple websites, documents, AI chats and traditional searches, Opera Neon introduces Tasks as a new way to organize and work with them within one context.

Tasks are self-contained workspaces that understand context and make it possible to use the AI to analyze, compare, and act across multiple sources at once. You can think of it as Opera Neon creating a mini-browser for each of your tasks, where the AI understands what you’re doing and helps you in this context - without accessing information from everything else in your browser.

Let’s say you’re planning an elaborate journey to Japan: you can work on it from a task within your browser – with Neon Chat helping you out and Neon Do carrying out some of the tasks and getting things done for you.

Or what if you want to research NASA flyby missions? Neon Do will be able to help you get started: it will actively find and open pages with the most interesting ones. With your curiosity sparked, you can continue using Chat for deepdives into all these pages within that Task.

Opera Neon also features Cards – which work like a power-up known from card-based strategy games. When you add a card to your prompt its instructions are automatically factored in and used, which brings Opera Neon’s response closer to what you’re looking for.

The browser lets you build your own custom cards or draw from the community’s collection in the Cards store - you can create your own mix of cards to shape the responses from Opera Neon and make it act the way you want. Comparing products across tabs? Add the pull-details + comparison-table cards to your prompt. Or if you’re taking meeting notes, combine the key-decisions + action-items + follow-ups cards and Opera Neon will capture what matters in the right format.

Cards mark the difference between explaining your needs from scratch every time versus prompting aided by a set of pre-defined cards to get what you want.

A browser that can act on your behalf

Opera Neon features a fully agentic browsing capability. At any time, the Neon Do function can be called upon to act within a specific Task. Neon can open new tabs, close others, and perform actions across them, always operating within the context of a Task.

Neon Do works where many other AI assistants can't - inside your actual browser and not solely in a cloud.

When you activate Neon Do within a Task, it starts operating inside your browser session, where you’re already logged in. There is no need to share passwords with cloud services or for repeated authentication flows.

Neon Do can carry out tasks such as shopping, booking, gathering information from your Task, or even applying for a job directly on the live web. It plans the steps needed, executes them directly in your browser, and adapts as conditions change. Its actions are visible in real time, with the option to pause or take control at any moment. Since its early preview (as Browser Operator), the interface has been redesigned for clarity, and its mechanics updated for greater safety, speed, and precision.

Research, build, and share

Make is Neon’s tool for creation. It interprets what needs to be built and employs AI agents to get it done for you. Outputs can include websites, games, videos, reports, or tools. Its work continues even when offline, and results are delivered with full source files for further editing and sharing. Anything you make, becomes a URL that you can share with anyone else. The virtual machine employed by Opera Neon is hosted on our secure European servers.

Opera Neon Make

Built on top of the Opera browsers

Opera Neon is built to act and give you an advantage over other AI users, but it’s also built to be your daily browser. That’s why we’ve put our 30 years of browser-craftsmanship into it and added the essential features that you are used to from our other browsers. That means, built-in ad blocker, VPN, Bookmarks, and even sidebar integrations. It’s important to note that all other Opera browsers include basic AI features. Neon is built for those of you who want to achieve more on the web with AI.

Availability

Opera Neon is a premium, subscription-based browser designed for power users. The first users are getting access starting today, with more invitations coming out shortly.

This is only the beginning of this journey: we have an exciting roadmap for the weeks to come. Stay tuned!
